The Enemies were an East Bay punk rock band. They joked that they were gonna get huge after breaking up...and this might be true. Check out the songs, it still sounds pretty good as it did when it came out--when they were tearing down places, some people heard it right away. A song like "151" is pure energy out the traps and it was even more surprising to hear about random people raving about this little band where everybody knew each other. I think anybody who got to see them were already fucked up, getting ready to party or on their way *down.
From their Second Hand Spit daze, they put out a split 7" on SPAM Records out of El Sob, which John Geek and the rest of the Geek Fest guys did to put some crazy punk rock flava into East Bay Punk Rock again. New Disorder released the self-titled Enemies CD, they toured the hell outta it and crashed out--literally, the van broke down in New York City and they had to go home. Rick had a baby and the band had to find another bassist for what they believe in...
Dave Ed`s licks from all the early Neurosis records got more epic and heavier as the years rolled by, but now with him in the band, The Enemies basically added thunder and plenty of the growling low-end to keep going. A split CD with Pitch Black, a half a dozen songs including a Pink Floyd cover (they all love The Floyd, but Dave and Nipple also did an Iron Maiden covers band called Iron Vegan for a while too) to kick start things. This time on Lookout Records, release number #261.
They got to Nu-Tone Studios out in Pittsburgh, got Chris Dugan to lay down the tracks that would become "Seize The Day", and released a record that would be their best. In this writer`s opinion, an almost-perfect record, both sides of the LP and front-to-back on CD. I should know, on tour I supplied the shoes.

Stagnancy is one of punk rock's longest-standing and most often lamented problems. This crisis of creativity began pretty much as soon as punk itself did, and perhaps results from the fact that a) the actual music so often takes a backseat to politics (of both the governmental and scenester variety) and b) The Ramones pretty much mastered the art of...
